ASIAN YOUTH CONFERENCE & PEACE FESTIVAL



INTRODUCTION:
Chanan Development Association (CDA) is a youth lead organization working with the mission in order to “improve the status of youth particularly young women enabling them to equally and actively participate in planning, management, decision / policy making and execution of their plans without any biases of gender, religion, age, language, class etc for the creation of a healthy, just, democratic, non-violent and peaceful society”.

The successful implementation of the pilot phase of the National Youth-PEACE Campaign (January – September 2010) was concluded through the"1st National Youth-PEACE Festival 2010", in the presence of more than 500 young people, media, civil society, and government officials on 22nd September 2010 at Lahore. The event was co-sponsored by UNAoC and Action-Aid Pakistan.

Aisam-ul-Haq, Nadia Jamil, Malkoo, I.A.Rehman, Molana Abdul Khabeer Azad and many prominent celebrities were part of the festival. The event started off with a session chaired by Mr. I.A. Rehman followed by Inter-Faith Dialogue. Several competitions surrounding the theme “Together, we are the Solution” took place. Sufi Qawwals from Baba Bulley Shah’s Darbar and Noori’s performance concluded the long day.



ASIAN YOUTH CONFERENCE & PEACE FESTIVAL 2011:
As continuity of NYPF 2010, Chanan Development Association in collaboration with Y-PEER Pakistan, Ministry of Information, Culture and Youth Affairs Punjab and UNFPA is going to organize a 3 days event with the Theme, "Together, We are the Solution". This year the focus of the conference will be on Asian Youth.

The conference will include formal opening and closing plenaries with high profile politicians, and celebrities from Asia. Panel Discussions, Breakout Sessions, Skills Building Workshops, Exposure visits, Competitions and Cultural Musical nights. The rest of the details is as follow

8th National Training of Trainers on Peer Education



In past few years UNFPA has been increasingly recognized as UN lead agency in the area of programming with young people and particularly young people at risk. Within the framework of programming for young people, UNFPA globally has supported number of behavior change communication initiatives, including peer education initiatives in general and Y -PEER in particular.

Youth Peer Education Network (Y-PEER) is a youth network, initiated by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in 2001, that is in more than 50 countries, working with/ linking more than 500 NGOs and GOs in Eastern Europe, Arab States, Central Asia and East Africa Y-PEER recently started to work in Latin America and Asia & Pacific. Its membership includes thousands of young people working in many areas surrounding Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health. Y-PEER is regarded as an efficient and effective means of promoting youth participation in sexual and reproductive health issues, by its stakeholders.

Currently, Y-PEER network is being governed by young people, with the support of its partners, such as UNFPA, UNAIDS and other International Organizations such as WAC, MTV-Staying Alive, GNP+ while it is also taking support of acknowledged academicians such as Harvard University, The American University of Beirut, Yale University…

Last year, Y-PEER International witnessed its expansion to Asia and Pacific region through the launch of national Y-PEER Networks in The Fiji, Thailand, The Philippines and also in Pakistan through the support of UNFPA Asia and Pacific Regional Office in Bangkok and UNFPA Country Offices in these countries..

UNFPA Pakistan in collaboration with Chanan Development Association (CDA), a youth lead organization working to empower young people and women employing arts based approaches, launched Y-PEER network in Pakistan on the occasion of International Youth Day 2009 and conducted 5 national Training of Trainers till yet.

More than 100 organizations from 58 districts of Pakistan are now members of Y-PEER while some 175 young trainers are serving the network as its “District Focal Points”.

The mission of Y-PEER is to promote a healthy life style through peer to peer approach and to empower young people to make responsible decisions.In past few years UNFPA has been increasingly recognized as UN lead agency in the area of programming with young people and particularly young people at risk. Title of the Workshop and Duration:
The title of the training workshop is “8th Training of Trainers (ToT) on PEER Education” and it will be held from 10th Septemberl (2:00 pm) till 14th Septemberl 2011.



Objectives of the Workshop:
The overall workshop objective is
To build capacity of selected group of trainers to delivery high quality peer education programs

The specific workshop objectives include
1- Better understand the concept of skills-based health education and related peer-led health education methodologies
2- Learn methodologies to acquire and share accurate information about RH and sexual health issues, including HIV/AIDS.
3- Discuss own attitudes and values regarding SRH and HIV/AIDS, as well as health education.
4-Develop interpersonal and group communication skills.
5- Acquire the skills to facilitate a range of interactive methodologies used in the training of peer educators.
6- Acquire basic knowledge in peer education program development
7- Better understand stigma and other risk factors which increase young people's vulnerability.
8- To promote positive attitudes that increase participants' abilities to work as partners with both young people and adults.
9- Learn about Y-PEER Network, its structure, elements and roles as Y-PEER Members
10- Commemorate World Aids Day and acknowledge the contribution of young people for the prevention of HIV/AIDS in Pakistan


Training Venue:
The training will be held in either Lahore or Islamabad.



Who Can Apply?
Young people between 15-25 years who fulfill the criteria can apply for the workshop. 


Training Cost:
There is NO Training Cost and all the selected participants will be provided with the, Free Training Material, Travel (DAEWOO, BUS or TRAIN ONLY), and Accommodation on the basis of double sharing room and all the meals. Local Transportation in Lahore will also be provided while participants will be responsible for their own transportation in their respective districts.
