ASIAN YOUTH CONFERENCE & PEACE FESTIVAL

INTRODUCTION:
Chanan Development Association (CDA) is a youth lead organization working with the mission in order to “improve the status of youth particularly young women enabling them to equally and actively participate in planning, management, decision / policy making and execution of their plans without any biases of gender, religion, age, language, class etc for the creation of a healthy, just, democratic, non-violent and peaceful society”.

The successful implementation of the pilot phase of the National Youth-PEACE Campaign (January – September 2010) was concluded through the"1st National Youth-PEACE Festival 2010", in the presence of more than 500 young people, media, civil society, and government officials on 22nd September 2010 at Lahore. The event was co-sponsored by UNAoC and Action-Aid Pakistan.

Aisam-ul-Haq, Nadia Jamil, Malkoo, I.A.Rehman, Molana Abdul Khabeer Azad and many prominent celebrities were part of the festival. The event started off with a session chaired by Mr. I.A. Rehman followed by Inter-Faith Dialogue. Several competitions surrounding the theme “Together, we are the Solution” took place. Sufi Qawwals from Baba Bulley Shah’s Darbar and Noori’s performance concluded the long day.



ASIAN YOUTH CONFERENCE & PEACE FESTIVAL 2011:
As continuity of NYPF 2010, Chanan Development Association in collaboration with Y-PEER Pakistan, Ministry of Information, Culture and Youth Affairs Punjab and UNFPA is going to organize a 3 days event with the Theme, "Together, We are the Solution". This year the focus of the conference will be on Asian Youth.

The conference will include formal opening and closing plenaries with high profile politicians, and celebrities from Asia. Panel Discussions, Breakout Sessions, Skills Building Workshops, Exposure visits, Competitions and Cultural Musical nights. The rest of the details is as follow

DATE & VENUE:
28th – 30th September, 2011
The venue will be disclosed later due to security reasons but it will be in Lahore.

THEME:
The basic theme of the Asian Youth Conference & Peace Festival remains “TOGETHER WE ARE THE SOLUTION”. However, each day has its own sub-theme :
• Day 1 (28th September): YOUTH PARTICIPATION & LEADERSHIP
• Day 2 (29th September): MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS & OUR ACTION
• Day 3 (30th September): CELEBRATING DIVERSITY FOR PEACE
All days will conclude with a social event each day.


PARTICIPANTS (DELEGATES):
The event will be attended by a total of 450 delegates:
• 150 Y-Peer District Focal Persons
• 50 Young Peer Trainers of Y-Peer
• 150 Local Delegates (from Lahore)
• 50 National Delegates (from across Pakistan including Civil Society Organizations, Youth Networks and Government)
• 50 International Delegates (from across the globe)


COMPETITIONS:
• ESSAY COMPETITION (1200 - 1500 words)
Your essay can be based on a true story or it can be any type of essay (argumentative, descriptive, narrative etc).
• POSTER COMPETITION
(Maximum of 5 posters by an educational institution/organization, 1 poster by an individual)
Your poster can be a hardcopy or a soft copy.
• SHORT FILM COMPETITION (2 -3 minute)
• ASIAN FLAG COMPETITION
(Maximum of 5 flags from each educational institution/organization, 1 flag by an individual)
You are to design an Asian Flag. It can be a hardcopy or a soft copy.

The prize money for all competitions is:
FIRST position : Rs 15,000
SECOND position : Rs 10,000
THIRD position : Rs 5000

• Deadline for International Delegates : 4th September, 2011
• Deadline for National Delegates : 4th September, 2011
