School of Business & Economics (SBE) at the University of Management & Technology (UMT) Lahore, Pakistan is organizing 1st International Conference on Business & Management (ICoBM) on January 5, 2011 in collaboration with Institute of Administrative Sciences, University of Punjab and Institute of Business Administartion, Sukkur and the Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia.
The theme of the conference is “Global Financial Crisis: Issues and Management”.
The 1st International Conference on Business Management (ICoBM) organized by the University of Management and Technology (UMT) is under way at the Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore. The theme of the Conference is Business, Academia and Government Partnership for a Better Future. It is being attended by CEOs, heads of international and multinational companies, policymakers, government officials, representatives from the corporate and social sectors, development experts, academicians, researchers, economists, financial institutes, NGOs, human resource development professionals and trainers, and PhD/ MPhil/ MS level university scholars.
The two-day event is a major component of the UMT Idea Exchange 2011 – the 3-in-one mega event organized by UMT. The other two components include the 3rd International Conference on Textile and Clothing and International Conference on Islamic Civilization – Potentials and Challenges.
Around 35 research papers will be presented in the 12 academic session of the Business Conference. The conference comprises two tracks: Academic Track, and Corporate Track. The academic track includes Management, Economics, Finance, Human Resource Management, and Marketing and Information Systems. The Corporate Track comprises of presentations of renowned business tycoons and entrepreneurs on business-related issues.
The Conference aims at capturing the knowledge, both theoretical and empirical, which will assist in preparing organizations to manage business under the prevailing circumstances in the country. It will provide a forum for discussion on key issues related to business, economics, finance, and society.

KARACHI ADVERTISING FESTIVAL 2010-11 has been successfully launched via its first in series of events i.e. 2-Days Inaugurating Training Workshops on "Media Expertise in Advertising" dated 27-28 November, 2010 at Royal Rodale Club, DHA, Karachi along with Fatima Surriya Bajiya, Jehan Ara Hai, Dr. Nadira Jawaid, Jamil Syed, Moen Qureshi, Neil Christy, Imran Ashraf and Irfan Iftikhar from India. Media Partners of KARACHI ADVERTISING FESTIVAL 2010-11 are Dawn News TV, Radio One FM 91 and 24 World Online. KARACHI ADVERTISING FESTIVAL 2010-11 has been inaugurating by Jehan Ara Hai (VP Education, APWA) along with Dr. Nadira Jawaid (Chairperson, KamzKirz Media Marketing Group), Dr. Jawaid Aziz (Co-Chairman, KamzKirz Media Marketing Group), Kiran Jawaid (Marketing Director, KamzKirz Media Marketing Group), Kirishma Jawaid (Creative Director, KamzKirz Media Marketing Group) and Kamran Jawaid (Event Director, KARACHI ADVERTISING FESTIVAL 2010-11).
Jehan Ara Hai and Dr. Nadira Jawaid has been enlightened the Traditional Chiragh (Lamp) on the Stage and Jehan Ara Hai declared "I Declared that KARACHI ADVERTISING FESTIVAL 2010-11 is OPEN". Dr. Jawaid Aziz has expressed the vision of KARACHI ADVERTISING FESTIVAL i.e. To Coach, Encourage and Appreciate the Industry of ADVERTISING in Pakistan. He further said "KARACHI ADVERTISING FESTIVAL 2010-11 is comprises over the series of events in relation with it's vision. Afterward Jehan Ara Hai expressed that "It's quite appreciating act done by Kamran Jawaid (Event Director) for the orphanized industry of Advertising." She further said "I've been in the connection of Advertising Industry via On-Screen appearance in several TV Commercials in last 3 decades and I've observed a big change some positive and some negative in the creations of advertisement. Positive in terms of TVC's quality according to International Standards and negative in terms of Concepts and Idea. Our Old Classic Pakistani Advertisements with a jingles of Aye Khuda Meray Abu Salamat Raheen, Ama Tallu Mein Pakao and Bhol Na Jana Phir Papa still in our minds but what about any new jingle, is they have any strong persuasion in the mind of Ad Facer?". In addition she asked to support the platform of KARACHI ADVERTISING FESTIVAL because KARACHI ADVERTISING FESTIVAL is the only strongest platform for Advertising Industry with exceptional and workable strategies.
After Inauguration, Mr. Jamil Syed (Former Executive Director, Pakistan Broadcast Association - PBA) has invited to deliver the Module One on "Introduction to Pakistani Advertising". He has discussed the different aspects of Ups and Downs in the Advertising Industry of Pakistani. He present the complete timeline of industry and the basics of advertising".
Then after Module One, Mr. Moin Qureshi (CEO, Creative Head Quarter - CHQ) arrived to deliver the Module Two on "Anatomy of Big Idea". He has discussed the different levels of Creativity and Concepts behind successful campaigns. He create a lively environment with his open criticism on bad and open appreciation on good campaigns in his own view.
Next Module i.e. Module Three delivered by Mr. Kamran Jawaid (Managing Director, KamzKirz Media Marketing Group & Event Director, Karachi Advertising Festival) on "Production Sequence behind a creation of TVC". He comprises the Production Sequence under the heads of Development, Pre-Production, Production, Post Production and Releasing. Under the Five Heads of Production Sequence he discussed the 24 Steps from Idea to Final Release. Kamran Jawaid also discussed the different aspects in differentiation between 3 hours Full Length Film and 30 Seconds Ad Film.
Module Four also delivered by the Mr. Kamran Jawaid on "Utilization of Animation Techniques". He made a clear picture of animation done behind successful projects of Tom & Jerry, Chicken Run, Spiderman, Matrix and Avatar and its utilization in Ad Films. He also discussed the Visual Effects in the Indian Media and It's Utilization.
After Module Four, Mr. Irfan Iftikhar (Director, SAARC Media - Mumbai-Karachi-Dhaka) invited and he made his presentation on Module Five i.e. "Cost Effective Ad Film Making in India". He discussed some of his mega projects in India including, Tata Indigo, Raymond, Faber and more. He also discussed his Ad Films in Pakistan. He faced a quite excite-full response by the workshop attendees. Workshop attendees made several queries including Indian costing, Mumbai FilmCity, Indian celebrities, Indian Advertising Gurus, Indian Production Houses and more.
Module Six on "Power of Jingle" also delivered by Mr. Irfan Iftikhar and he played several memorable jingles along with new creations. He also discussed that what are the different between Entertaining Music and An Ad Film Jingle. With the Module Six by Irfan Iftikhar, Day One of workshop has been over and Attendees ask to attend next day workshop. Day One started from 9:00 am sharp and it made its climax at 6:00 pm and duration for day two.
Day Two Highlights:
Day Two has been started with a screening of "History of International Advertising" has made. Screening comprises on 1 hour duration. Screening is about the evolution of Advertising in BC Era till NOW. After screening, Mr. Jamil Syed invited to deliver Module Seven.
Mr. Jamil Syed delivered Module Seven on "Media Planning and Strategies" with an active interactive discussion. This module is one of the most lengthy module because of its descriptive nature. Mr. Kamran Jawaid made presentation on "Brand Propagation in TV & Films" as Module Nine in queue. This Module is perceived as a most entertaining module because during this module several videos has played from known films and PTV dramas to discussed that how and in what manner, Brands can be promoted in TV Shows and Feature Films. Kamran Jawaid also discussed the different aspects of Branded Entertainment and its share in Advertisement.
Final Module i.e. Module Ten on "Why Celebrity Endorsement ?" also delivered by Mr. Kamran Jawaid. Once Again like previous module, this module is also getting active attention of attendees. This module is about the selection and presenting of celebrity as Brand Ambassador, What sort of relations developed among Brand, Celebrity and the Prospects, who suppose to be Customer or Consumer. Here Kamran Jawaid also discussed the different aspects of hiring foreign faces especially from India for making promotions in Pakistan.

KARACHI ADVERTISING FESTIVAL 2010-11 has been inaugurating by Jehan Ara Hai (VP Education, APWA) along with Dr. Nadira Jawaid (Chairperson, KamzKirz Media Marketing Group), Dr. Jawaid Aziz (Co-Chairman, KamzKirz Media Marketing Group), Kiran Jawaid (Marketing Director, KamzKirz Media Marketing Group), Kirishma Jawaid (Creative Director, KamzKirz Media Marketing Group) and Kamran Jawaid (Event Director, KARACHI ADVERTISING FESTIVAL 2010-11).
Jehan Ara Hai and Dr. Nadira Jawaid has been enlightened the Traditional Chiragh (Lamp) on the Stage and Jehan Ara Hai declared "I Declared that KARACHI ADVERTISING FESTIVAL 2010-11 is OPEN". Dr. Jawaid Aziz has expressed the vision of KARACHI ADVERTISING FESTIVAL i.e. To Coach, Encourage and Appreciate the Industry of ADVERTISING in Pakistan. He further said "KARACHI ADVERTISING FESTIVAL 2010-11 is comprises over the series of events in relation with it's vision. In coaching, we are conducting training workshops, In encouraging we will be bringing the event of "Brand Walk" in the month of January 2011 and In appreciating we will be bringing the "1st Global Innovative Advertising Awards" in the month of March 2011"
Afterward Jehan Ara Hai expressed that "It's quite appreciating act done by Kamran Jawaid (Event Director) for the orphanized industry of Advertising." She further said "I've been in the connection of Advertising Industry via On-Screen appearance in several TV Commercials in last 3 decades and I've observed a big change some positive and some negative in the creations of advertisement. Positive in terms of TVC's quality according to International Standards and negative in terms of Concepts and Idea. Our Old Classic Pakistani Advertisements with a jingles of Aye Khuda Meray Abu Salamat Raheen, Ama Tallu Mein Pakao and Bhol Na Jana Phir Papa still in our minds but what about any new jingle, is they have any strong persuasion in the mind of Ad Facer?". In addition she asked to support the platform of KARACHI ADVERTISING FESTIVAL because KARACHI ADVERTISING FESTIVAL is the only strongest platform for Advertising Industry with exceptional and workable strategies.
After Inauguration, Mr. Jamil Syed (Former Executive Director, Pakistan Broadcast Association - PBA) has invited to deliver the Module One on "Introduction to Pakistani Advertising". He has discussed the different aspects of Ups and Downs in the Advertising Industry of Pakistani. He present the complete timeline of industry and the basics of advertising".
Then after Module One, Mr. Moin Qureshi (CEO, Creative Head Quarter - CHQ) arrived to deliver the Module Two on "Anatomy of Big Idea". He has discussed the different levels of Creativity and Concepts behind successful campaigns. He create a lively environment with his open criticism on bad and open appreciation on good campaigns in his own view.
Next Module i.e. Module Three delivered by Mr. Kamran Jawaid (Managing Director, KamzKirz Media Marketing Group & Event Director, Karachi Advertising Festival) on "Production Sequence behind a creation of TVC". He comprises the Production Sequence under the heads of Development, Pre-Production, Production, Post Production and Releasing. Under the Five Heads of Production Sequence he discussed the 24 Steps from Idea to Final Release. Kamran Jawaid also discussed the different aspects in differentiation between 3 hours Full Length Film and 30 Seconds Ad Film.
Module Four also delivered by the Mr. Kamran Jawaid on "Utilization of Animation Techniques". He made a clear picture of animation done behind successful projects of Tom & Jerry, Chicken Run, Spiderman, Matrix and Avatar and its utilization in Ad Films. He also discussed the Visual Effects in the Indian Media and It's Utilization.
After Module Four, Mr. Irfan Iftikhar (Director, SAARC Media - Mumbai-Karachi-Dhaka) invited and he made his presentation on Module Five i.e. "Cost Effective Ad Film Making in India". He discussed some of his mega projects in India including, Tata Indigo, Raymond, Faber and more. He also discussed his Ad Films in Pakistan. He faced a quite excite-full response by the workshop attendees. Workshop attendees made several queries including Indian costing, Mumbai FilmCity, Indian celebrities, Indian Advertising Gurus, Indian Production Houses and more.
Module Six on "Power of Jingle" also delivered by Mr. Irfan Iftikhar and he played several memorable jingles along with new creations. He also discussed that what are the different between Entertaining Music and An Ad Film Jingle. With the Module Six by Irfan Iftikhar, Day One of workshop has been over and Attendees ask to attend next day workshop. Day One started from 9:00 am sharp and it made its climax at 6:00 pm and duration for day two.

Introductory Session of Nutshell at CIIT, Lahore
Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 9:22 PMI managed to arrange an introductory session Meetup at CIIT, Lahore on Friday Nov 26,2010. The meetup was held at 10 a.m at Seminar Hall Block A,CIIT Lahore.
Mr. Yousaf Jamshed Country Head HR nad Communication Manager, ABB(Pvt) Ltd. Pakistan was the guest speaker of this meetup session representing Nutshell forum and along with him was Mr. Asad-ul-Haq. We had a good session as 68 students along with the faculty members attended the session.
Following were the ethings which were discussed in the meetup.
1- Basic Information about Nutshell Forum.
2- About the upcoming Mega Event MESA Learning and OD Summit at PC Hotel, Lahore
3- Q/A session with the students.
4- Brochures were divided among the attendees.

Review of Meetup with Kamran Rizvi
Thursday, November 25, 2010 at 9:22 AMAfter a Mega event of Entrepreneurial Conference "Tiecon 2010" at Royal Palm on October 30, 2010, A meetup with Kamran Rizvi was arranged by a very talented guy Mr. Iftikhaar Hussain at Royal Palam Golf and Country Club, Lahore on October4, 2010. We were 3 friends from CIIT,Lahore.The timing was 2.30-5pm. We reached at 2.20pm.. The environment was great. All the sitting arrangement was properly organised. Good registration process confirmation at the entry. After the entry we had warm welcome from the organizer of the event. Before the meetup time started we had a nice networking before the session. As the formal time began all the participants were seated properly.
Business Ideas Competition:
In a very short time we were given a task of preparing a business plan just in 10-15 mins. For this purpose all the students were selected randomly to form a team. A team was formed with all the students who didn't know eachother. A team of 4-6 members was formed and total of 5 teams were formed. so, we had a great time of brainstorming with those who were having total different mindsets.
After just 15 mins we were asked to present that business plan with helping material(A chart containing name of business, the logo and the message)..So, it was too much difficult as we had to discuss, dicide a plan and then make a chart and display all the idea on it and present it in front of all. The most interesting thing in this activity was that the judge will call the presenter of his own choice. So, this made it more interesting as every team member was trying to have a full grip on idea. Some of the ides were

After presentation everybody was admired of having good ideas and good presentation because it were all created in just 10-15 mins with unkown team members.And we learned how to interact with like minded as well as different minded people, About the conflicts and how to manage conflicts with unlike minded people(Conflict Management).

There were 3 speakers including the main body Kamran Rizvi and two other speakers Dr. Amjad and Professor Naeem Abidi
1-Kamran Rizvi Talk:
Kamran Rizvi started the talk with 3 main points of making an organization successful
i- Profitalbility: How your work increase any organization profitability
ii- Growth: How there would be growth in that organization with your decission
iii- Sustainability: How sustainalbility of any organization increases with your help.
To be successful as there is no shortcut to success so there is need of thorough study. He said," If you want something from any firm, study that organization,research and get what you can do to make that organisation better. You do research, meet employee of that organization to know more about that organization, and after doing such home work then you are capable to go for meeting with the executives which will give positive results.
He added, "If you can't give any tangible thing then you don't need to waste your time as well as others time".
2- Professor Naeem abidi:
He talked about personal development. How a person can develop himself to be successful.He added a quotation
"Tum ne Chaha hi nahi Chahnay walo ki tarah( You didn't love me as a lover)" so how it is possible that you can achieve a thing which you never loved. To achieve a thing you need to lose one.As if a man is thirsty he tries to get water.So, without the feelings and passion nobody can be succesful.Naeem sahb has run lots of zero business investment projects in pakistan and specially in Multan city where there almost no support to such persons.Some of his running projects are
1- A training Company
2- A psychological Institute
3-A security company

3- Dr Amjad:
Dr. Amjabd is from Akhuwat which is first investment organization in pakistan which provide interest free loans. His idea was to diminish poverty. He said its only brotherood that can completly diminsh poverty in Pakistan. If top 50% people support lower 50% people there will be no poverty.He started the organization with first interest free loan of Rs.10,000 and now the total number of loans of Akhuwat reached to Rs.1 billion.He shared the website of Akhuwat with following address

After this a session of Q&A started. kamran rizvi gave an example of P&G of how they started there business. He told that P&G started there business with candle and soap because there was need of that time.So providing solution to a problem will led your business towards success. He added,if you start the business of soap and candle even todayyou can earn a lot because of current Pakistan's loadshedding problems and hiegene problems.
He gave the final advice
A-
1- Don't work with people you don't trust.
2- Work there where there are trustd people.
3- If you don't find such place create it.
B- Secret to change is that if you work good talent will follow you and the most important asset today for any firm is the Human Resource
C- You should be clear about you vission and passion .
